THE DETAILS

When Lorna and Duncan approached Crispin Design with their new business idea, we were instantly on board. There was a clear need for a local, caring pet cremation service in Mid Canterbury. Through her work as a vet, Lorna recognised the importance of offering families a dignified farewell for their much-loved pets, regardless of budget or circumstance.

The name Summerland could not be more fitting. The business is nestled in Mount Somers, and the name speaks to a peaceful and beautiful place where souls go to rest. Often described as a land of eternal summer and natural beauty, this meaning became the foundation for the visual direction.

We developed a warm, caring colour palette inspired by the surrounding Mid Canterbury landscape. Soft, sun-washed neutrals reflect openness and light, while grounded darker tones bring depth, calm and reassurance. The palette balances emotion with professionalism, creating a brand presence that feels gentle without losing strength.

The result is a brand that feels soft yet confident. Bespoke product imagery of the different urns and keepsakes ties together thoughtful visuals with a deep sense of personal connection between pet and owner. The identity truly reflects what Summerland Pet Cremations stands for, guiding families every step of the way with care, integrity and a dignified farewell for their beloved pets.

The brochure extends the Summerland brand into print with a calm, structured layout that is clear and easy to navigate. Information is presented with sensitivity and professionalism, supported by considered imagery showcasing the urn options and clearly outlining the process.

The finished piece communicates services simply and directly, reflecting the warmth and care at the heart of the business without overwhelming families during a difficult time.

On the website, the digital experience reflects the brand’s integrity and compassion, allowing families to understand the process with confidence. It was important to Lorna and Duncan to provide clear information around ash return and scattering options, while also highlighting their support of local charities.

The bespoke urn options are presented with professional photography, giving families a clear view of each choice. A custom cremation form was developed to streamline the process. Once submitted, it automatically generates a PDF with the relevant details and sends it to both Lorna and the customer to begin and track the journey.

The form is built to integrate with a CRM or other systems as needed. Automation was a key project requirement, ensuring the administrative side of the business runs efficiently and reduces manual handling for everyone involved.
